New! The Psyko 3 XL! We have applied the technology to the Psyko 3 that we have learned
with the SchpotDorker!
This new Psyko is over 5 ounces lighter than the regular Psyko 3! This means a wingloading
of under 8.5 oz/sq. ft. and improved sinkrate and handling!
This may be the ultimate contest ship. Daryl Perkins designed the Laser 3MC and
then took it to the Nats in 1997 for a win in F3J and Open class competition. We at NSP
with the help of Daryl and Don Peters (designer of the MapleLeaf hlg) reworked the
planform to produce the Edge. Daryl liked what he saw especially in terms of performance
and decided to design a third sailplane. The Psyko takes the best aspects of the Edge and
the Laser and combines them to develop this "best of both worlds" competition TD
and F3J ship. Daryl "tweaked" the planform to produce what has turned out to be
the most efficient and marvelous sailplane to date.
The epoxy glass and Kevlar fuselage of the Psyko 3 is a wonderfully crafted, streamlined
beauty that sports a nosecone for ease of entry and strength. This new fuselage is
prepainted and comes drilled and fitted for the wing. All the composite work is done at
one location to ensure a good fit. Like the Laser 3MC, the
Psyko 3 has a long tail moment and a generous fin for directional stability.
All flying surfaces are composite. The wings are made of carefully matched Spyder foam and
a special high-density, low weight blue foam to render the best combination of strength
and low weight. The wing surfaces are bagged with a special carbon fiber cloth and encased
in a bias-cut satin weave FG to provide torsional rigidity and smooth surface finish. The
wings are finished white on top with natural black finish on the bottom to maximize
visibility. All our high performance wings now come with full internal Kevlar hinges.
These hinges are virtually permanent and will last the lifetime of the sailplane. The new
Psyko Light is an unbeatable TD contest ship and will climb in the lightest lift penetrate
in wind up to 20 mph WITHOUT BALLAST and slow down and track perfectly for those high
point landings!
Like the Laser 3MC and all our top-of-the-line composite sailplanes, we followed our
inclination to use nothing but the best components, and our hardware is top shelf. We
include a carbon fiber wingrod, high strength fiberglass control horns and special
lightweight carbonfiber rods and sheaths for the ultimate in weight control and rigidity.
These rods are smooth with a slop-free response. All hardware and instructions are
supplied for the modeler, as is standard for all NSP kits. The Psyko 3 also comes with a
full-sized set of Cad plans to make the task of setup and assembly clear and easy for the
modeler.
Great penetration and a surprisingly efficient glide are provided by the SA7035 airfoil.
We have found the Psyko 3 launches very high and has the ability to range farther than any
sailplane in its class. The speed range is very wide with an upper end glide almost as
good as an F3B ship. The ability to hang in the air is just what you should expect from
this advanced planform. We have been able to get an increase in glide and speed range of
nearly 10 percent, and that's something you can see; but what's more amazing is the turn
efficiency of the Psyko 3. All sailplanes see an increased sinkrate in turns; the Psyko
minimizes this loss and maintains the ability not only to float but also to retain its
good straight-line abilities and stay efficient throughout the turn. With the Psyko 3 it
is possible to make exploratory turns in fragmentary lift without concern for excessive
altitude loss. What does this mean? As an expert pilot, you can feel confident to take the
Psyko 3 to the limit of your piloting capabilities. The Psyko 3 will not let you down.
Flight performance is just as you would expect from such an advanced design. You get a
flat reaching glide; slow speed handling equal to the SD7037 floaters. The Psyko 3, while
having a nice slow speed with minimum sinkrate, will easily speed up, giving you the reach
you need to work distant thermals. We have found that generous movable surfaces are more
effective, not only at the slow speeds so important to landing, but also for working those
small, tight thermals. The rudder area is also enhanced. These changes make a noticeable
gain in performance, whether you're thermaling at slow speeds or covering distances in
search of lift.
Daryl Perkins: This is the best yet! I am very pleased with the Psyko 3. It is everything
I needed or wanted in a competition sailplane.
Sal: The New XL version is simply awesome! All this performance and even lighter lift
capabilities too! Landings are really easy making even me look like a pro!
