We have been looking for a sailplane with these characteristics for a long time and
finally we have found it in the Hybrid. Similar to the Graphite with several refinements,
the Hybrid is extremely lightweight with a wingloading reserved for 2 meter trainers!
Don't think that just because the Hybrid has such a low wingloading that it will not
penetrate, because the secret to the surprising performance of this bird is the low
profile planform and careful choice of airfoil. This sailplane is called the Hybrid due to
the combination of several construction techniques to make this sailplane into the
remarkable performer it seems to be. The leading edge of both the wings and V-tails are
fully molded hollow core with a blended Carbon fiber and Kevlar cloth. This D-tube is
finished with a triple reinforced full length and depth spar for maximum strength. The
fuselage is also made of this blended cloth and is gel coated white and is fitted with a
removable nosecone with inner nose molded for radio installation and ballast tube. The
wing rests on a short pedestal and is attached with three metal bolts. The wing from the
D-tube to the trailing edge is built very much like the high tech Free-Flight competition
models with machine cut ribs, capped with carbon fiber, and knuckle joint hinges all
reinforced with carbon fiber. The trailing edges and servo boxed are of molded carbon
fiber. All in all, the Hybrid wing is very light and extremely strong, with an amazing
combination and blending of techniques and technologies. Even though the Hybrid is very
light, it will take any launch you can give it!
Although we consider the Hybrid a top of the line competition sailplane, it is easily
handled by the intermediate pilot. Its generous area and surfaces as well as the curved
and upturned tips allow the pilot to slow the Hybrid way down in the turns without fear of
tip stalling. This is one forgiving sailplane!
The Hybrid takes soaring performance to another level! Launching is a matter of standing
on the pedal and zooms are easily done! The span is perfect for TD competition and the
Hybrid will not only thermal, but will penetrate well too! The large moveable surfaces and
low inertia on the tips combined with the low overall weight and low wingloading make for
very slow controlled landings. This is an easy spot lander for its size!
The epoxy glass, CF, and Kevlar fuselage of the Hybrid is a wonderfully crafted,
streamlined beauty that sports a pylon mount for lowered drag and a nosecone for ease of
entry and strength. The fuselage is prepainted and comes drilled and fitted for the
3-piece wing.
All components are fully finished, covered, and painted. The parts are prefitted so all
that is left for the modeler is to install the radio gear and go flying. The V-tail is
fully built and is removeable, breaking down to two pieces so you can lay these flat back
in the original box! We provide CF pushrods and sheaths for the V-tail as well as special
Ball link fitting for smooth, slop-free control. The fuselage front section has a cutout
made for battery, servo and receiver components. This is very nicely done and is very easy
to install the radio equipment.
From the factory the kit is fully built and comes with all hardware needed. The Hybrid is
set up to take micro servos, such as the Hitec digital HS-5125 and HS-5245 servos,
or the Hitec
HS-85BB and Hitec
HS-85MG, and can be made ready for flight in just one evening. We have assembled a set
of instructions to help the modeler setup and assemble his craft. We at NSP have always
felt that the flight performance and handling are very important to the modeler/pilot. You
will be very surprised in the Hybrid!
Sal Says:
I am completely overjoyed with the Hybrid. It will launch very high, taking as hard a launch as you can give it. Best of all, it will climb in absolutely the lightest lift! Landings are a breeze with the Hybrid. They can't get any slower or you would be going backwards!
