We have found that this new sailplane the Bird is really a great find. Exceptional
quality, and finish. We laid out planform and very strong airframe all add to the value of
the Bird DS. The Bird is made in CNC molds and is fabricated with full panel carbon fiber
for incredible strength. The ailerons are top hinged with wipers. The airfoil is the
highly efficient and fast HN 354. This airfoil is used in Europe extensively for slope
racing.
The fuse is a very strong carbon/Kevlar lay-up with a ¾” Dia. ballast tube
installed under the wing. The canopy is carbon fiber, and has the latch pre-installed!
Although a very sleek design there is reasonable run for any of the micro servo in the
fuselage and it is possible to easily install the HS-85BB or HS-85MG servos. You can also
install a Super Slim of one of the JR receivers and a decent sized battery pack .The
pushrods are pre-installed and have the ball links attached. The V-tail comes with the
ball link horns pre-installed. So you simply bolt on the V-tail and you are ready for
radio installation.
As you would expect of a model of this quality and completeness, the included hardware
kit comes complete with wing bolts, custom servo covers, brass control horns for the wing,
and even a hex key for the wing bolts! We further add all the pushrods and anything else
needed to complete the Bird. You will need to install the radio gear. We suggest using
HS-85BB for the V-tails and HS-125MG for the ailerons and flaps. The Hitec SuperSlim or
the Electron 6 receiver are excellent choices.
Here is what the manufacturer says:
The plane model "BIRD" is designed for the downhill
flight racing in the category to 60 inches. The purpose was to draw up a simple and
effective model, which with its aircraft performance would compete other models in this
category. I cooperated with the best Czech pilots in category F3F during designing of this
model. They defined the basic concept of the form, the measure and weight of each part.
The prepared grounds to model study were calculated with streamlined calculations. During
these calculations were defined plane profiles, V-tail surfaces and alignment. Then the 3D
drawings of each part came about. The molds for this model was prepared with CNC machine
tool and we could exactly keep all these values. The result is geometrical, symmetrical
and precision product.
The model "BIRD" is produced for the downhill flight in
the basic version. (NSP note: we offer the Carbon DS version only) Resistance and
stiffness of model fill requirements for this kind of flight. We test stronger version of
the whole model with using carbon and aramid for the flight in extreme conditions.
The plane is produced by vacuum technology. The sandwich
structure creates - balsa - glass fabric. The raft is created with two flanges from carbon
1600 TEX, which are jointed by Herex and fiberglass. The plane has ailerons and lifting
flaps.
V-tail surfaces are the same construction as the plane.
The fuselage is produced from fiberglass and is reinforced by
carbon in hard places. The fuselage is constructed by the way when it is not necessary to
use micro servos and receiver. RC equipment is placed in the front part of the fuselage.
Under one plane is installed laminated tube for ballast. Other parts of the fuselage are
sealed up for controlling tail surfaces. The plane is fixed to the fuselage with two
screws M4 and V-tail is glued on.

NSP says:
The handling is delightful and the Bird is fast. In the DS version the airframe is VERY
stiff and this translates to very immediate, fast, responsive handling. With ballast, the
speed of the Bird is quite impressive! The flaps are very effective allowing the pilot to
put the Bird down in quite a small area.
