The future of high performance is available now! We took the great flying characteristics of the Sparrow and added new technology and improved turning capabilities for racing - all in a 60" package. We now introduce the very competitive Avocet.
If you are looking for a fast composite ARF slope ship that is capable of lots of fun, or maybe kicking butt at the next slope race, look no further. With its S7012 airfoil and light airframe, the Avocet is a wonderful light lift performer. Add ballast and it will rock and roll, passing by the best slopers. With its generous control surfaces it has a very quick roll rate, and performs aerobatics with ease. In light lift and on dual rate, it’s an armchair flyer that an intermediate can easily fly. Designed as an evolutionary process from the Sparrow, the Avocet is a no-compromise composite performance sailplane consisting of carbonfiber skinned, pre-painted (white top, black natural bottom) foam wings, and fiberglass skinned Spyder foam tails. The Kevlar/fiberglass fuselage is designed to have the longer tail moment needed to give smooth pitch response and no loss in the turns. The long nose moment requires little or no nose weight to balance the plane. Sixty-inch slopers don’t get any better than this! Its ease of building, great looks, and performance are second to none, adding up to a slope ship that you’ll be happy to own.
This is a fast building ARF kit! What we have found is that the Avocet keeps its great flying characteristics even with full ballast. This means that the handling and speed range of the Avocet is linear. Therefore, the pilot will be able to count on the same trim and flying performance no matter what the wind speed or amount of ballast. In light lift there isn’t a faster 60" sailplane out there. In all lift conditions the Avocet’s turning ability is astounding. The best racers say that a race is won in the turns...the Avocet is the tool!
In testing the Avocet, what really stood out is its maneuverability and efficiency in inland slope conditions. This is a very aerobatic sailplane and many maneuvers can be performed in light lift!
We've got a ballast kit that includes everything you need to get maximum speed from your Avocet in all lift conditions. It’s an easy installation: simply drill one hole in the fuselage, and add up to 22 ounces in 3-1/2 ounce increments.
