Here it is! You guys have asked for it and here is is. The New Omega 2 1.8 meter Poly electric sailplane. Built exactly like the Omega 2 1.8ME, the Omega 1.8 ME Poly shares all the features of this renowned sailplane and also has a curved taper leading edge withpolyhedral! The Tails are brand New! Unlike the Omega 2 1.8ME the tails are conventional rudder and elevator for ease of setup and handling. Best of all only a 3 channel radio is need to control this new Omega. The performance is what you would expect from an Omega 1.8 but with only two servos for rudder and elevator and a third channel for throttle, this is a gentleman's sailplane. Very relaxing to fly, but with all the performance as well. Combining a composite fiberglass fuselage and the best technology of free flight wings, we get a sailplane that is beautifully built and flies as good as it looks. This polyhedral sailplane has a two piece breakdown wing and is supplied with conventional tails (rudder and elevator). The Omega 2 1.8 ME Poly has been designed to fly at the lightest possible weight without sacrificing strength.

NEW!!! Flapped Version!

We now offer the Omega 2 1.8 ME Poly in a flapped version! The wings has inboard flaps that go down 90 degrees! As with all the Omega 2 series the flaps are internally hinged at the factory with Kevlar. This makes for a very easy setup. The servo bays are installed in the wings too!

The flaps give the pilot the ability to land in a much smaller area. Two more servos are needed ( we recommend the HS-65MG's) and you will need to have a computer radio that accepts a flapped sailplane.

The kit is almost ready to fly and comes with a lightweight, yet strong carbon/Kevlar fuselage with carbon fiber canopy (very high tech look!), with the pushrod tubes and wing holddowns installed. The real beauty is in the wing construction. Free flight building and experience is evident in the Omega 2 1.8 ME Poly and it is obvious the designer knows how to make a very strong and light structure. They are also able to build an undercambered wing with accuracy rivaling a molded wing. The molded carbon D-box is hand-laid onto pre-shaped foam. This D-form is pressed with a layer of carbon into a female CNC machined mold. This gives a very stiff and accurate leading edge for perfect airfoil shape at the leading edge, the most important part for the wing. The rear of this D-box is faced with some light balsa shear webbing. The trailing edge of the Omega 2 1.8 ME Poly uses a combination of carbonfiber, fiberglass, and foam to give the lightest, strongest, and sharpest TE we have ever seen!. Root and transition ribs are made of balsa/carbon sandwich. The whole wing has an multiple elliptical curved leading edge and looks just beautiful.

The Omega 2 1.8 ME Poly is very efficient with a wide speed range and is able to both penetrate well and slow down to work the lightest possible thermal. The sailplane can be flown at the limits of vision because it is very stable and will lock into a thermal turn, needing very little input from the pilot.

All that is left to the builder is to install the motor system, radio equipment and linkages. The Omega E Poly is great for the traveler; the wings are two pieces with a wingrod and are attached with two nylon bolts. In this conventional tailed version, the stab/elevator is removable with two bolts. This allows the Omega E Poly to breakdown to a small package for travel. The Omega E Poly can take a normal sized receiver but we recommend a small micro receiver such as the Berg 4 or Berg 7, in 2.4Ghz we suggest going with the AR6100 and sub micro servos such as the S3114 or HS-55 servos. This equipment will keep the weight to a minimum and performance to the max. For the flapped version we suggest using the HS-65MG on the flaps for maximum performance and durability.

The MH 32 airfoil, low weight, accurate section and good choice of planform result in an electric sailplane that is simply outstanding. The low inertial weight of the wing reacts to the lightest lift and small control inputs. At a flying weight of 17-19 oz, it’s an outstanding performer. Handling is what you would expect, it shows you the lightest thermal and drives into it by itself. The Omega 2 1.8ME Poly is strong for moderate aerobatics and can move upwind with ease due to the efficient planform and airfoil combination.

The wing is very stiff yet light and is covered with SolarFilm. Given this type of construction, we have found the Omega 2 1.8ME Poly to have the best workmanship we have seen to date.
