 Finally, a really good performing all EPP 2 meter sailplane! In cooperation with Whyte Wings, NSP has designed and manufactured the best possible 2 meter beginner sailplane. The Defiant has very good performance. With the S7055 airfoil added to this tried and true planform, we have designed and developed an EPP sailplane with performance that rivals the best of the RES two meters. The planform was derived from much experience and research in
development starting as far back as the Airtronics Olympic to the current Laser 2M competition sailplane. With this experience, we derived the Defiant planform for both forgiving handling and the ability to thermal well.
We didn't forget that the airplane has to be strong to withstand some pretty hard winch launches, and to that end we have used a balsa shearweb and hardwood capped spar that will take a pretty strong launch. Of course, being EPP and Coroplast, the Defiant is pretty near impossible to damage seriously. Your reward is a sailplane that is fun to fly AND able to
take the hard landings (read: crashes) and keep on coming back for more. How? As a rank beginner, even you can't punish this glider enough to break it. Winch it or high start it all day long. When you crash it, pick it up and launch it again. It's nearly beginner-proof: the Defiant can handle every dumb-thumb move you make on the way to developing your flying skills. So while you're learning, you can stop worrying about whether your airplane will survive today's outing.
We have come a long way in the finish of the Defiant and have considered the end user carefully. The servos, receiver and battery pack all go in pre-cut bays in the front of the fuselage, and then are protected and sealed with Coroplast side panels that both protect the radio area further and also add a nice touch of color. The Defiant is a complete kit which includes all EPP foam parts, leading and trailing edges all the hardware is included with the Defiant kit and a series of detailed step by step building pictures accompany the all inclusive building manual.
We decided to make the wing very strong and simple to build with a small faired in center section for lowest drag in this area. As an added performance enhancement we decided to go with a bolt-on wing for maximum strength and rigidity.
To complete the Defiant you will need glue, packing tape and covering material such as UltraCote. Even a beginner can do a nice job on this sailplane with a minimum amount of effort. The performance will surprise even the most jaded expert pilot.
