We have been searching for a long time and have finally found the Swallow. It is the
same size as NSP's own Sparrowhawk, but it is fully molded and Almost Ready to Fly. With a
wingspan of just over two meters, the Swallow is the perfect sailplane for the medium to
larger slopes; yet it's not so large as to be difficult to land or set up.
We offer you a choice of a one-piece OR a two-piece wing; and ailerons only, OR both flaps
and ailerons. The V-tail and wings are removable and this new Swallow will pack up for
easy transportation.
This all-Molded glider model SWALLOW is manufactured and supplied in several versions: The
wing is divided or in one piece with only ailerons, or with both ailerons and flaps.
Fuselage is all fiberglass with reinforcement and has a canopy for easy access to the
radio gear. Being a bolt-on wing, the access to ballast is through the wing compartment
and over 3 pounds can be installed in the fuselage over the CG.
Of course, the Sparrow is designed for slope soaring and can be used for fun or racing.
The Swallow is strong enough for DS flying except in the most extreme conditions. In the
electric version, called the Weasel, it also flies very well (see Electric Sailplanes).
For most flying and landing sites, the flapped version is your best bet. This option will
allow you to maneuver the Swallow into even a small cluttered landing area.
Handling is straightforward with no surprises, and the slightly larger size compared to
the typical 60" feels more stable with good tracking. The RG 15 modified airfoil
endows the Swallow with the speed needed for fast slope flying and the light wing loading
to fly in lighter conditions.
The wing is designed with a compound curved leading edge ending in a slightly upturned
tip, which not only looks good but is very helpful in preventing tip stalls.
The ailerons and flaps are generous and give very good control authority. All movable
surfaces are wipered; and since the flaps are hinged on the bottom they can be deployed to
almost 90 degrees. All hinges are part of the molded process (called live hinges) and do
not disturb the airflow over the wing.
As with all Valenta Products, the workmanship is simply outstanding and the graphic design
of each sailplane is just beautiful. NSP has made sure that the Swallow has been carefully
modified for use in the USA.
We recommend the use of HS-85BB and HS-85MG servos in the Swallow. The Electron 6,
or SuperSlim
receivers are very good choices.
When ordering, please specify the version: flaps and ailerons, or ailerons-only; and
one-piece or two-piece wing. Stock colors are Purple, Black, Red, Light Blue, Dark Blue,
Yellow; you may specify your preferences (1st, 2nd, etc.) or call or e-mail to reserve
your colors.
Shipping cost for the two-piece wing version via UPS Ground (two boxes) runs $22 in the
contiguous US. FedEx shipping costs for the one-piece version will vary with destination.
Sal Says:
What a nice sailplane! I love the looks of the Swallow (could it be because it looks like the Sparrow?). The size is perfect for both my favorite inland slopes and zipping around the coastal slopes of Cape Cod. I find that the Swallow will really tear up the skies and, with ballast added, can easily handle high winds. The wingloading without ballast is light enough to fly well on all my inland flying sites - and with flaps, landing is a cinch!
