This beautiful two-channel handlaunch sailplane has a three-piece wing and is now supplied with a conventional tail for conventional elevator and rudder control. The Eros was designed to fly easily for the novice flyer and although a strong sailplane, it will finish out at a light weight. The quad tapered wing comes in three pieces with a flat center section and dihedral tips. The outer sections can be taped on for flying so they are then easily removed for storage and travel.
The kit is almost ready to fly and comes with a lightweight, white fiberglass fuse, and a painted and trimmed canopy. The real beauty is in the wing construction. The mostly conventional wing construction of ribs and LE and TE edges is reinforced with a carbon fiber tube spar that goes the whole length of the wing. It is very light and adds maximum in strength to the wing. It is a simple and elegant solution to adding a spar to a
lightweight wing. The wingtips are fashioned from lightweight balsa sheet and reinforced with a transverse tapered spar.
All that is left to the builder is to install the radio equipment and linkages. The illustrated instruction booklet is written in English for ease of assembly. The Eros can take a standard size receiver, but we recommend a small micro receiver such as the Hitec 555 or FMA Extreme and sub micro servos such as the Hitec HS-50, HS-55's. This equipment will keep the weight to a minimum and performance to the max.
The wing is very stiff yet light and is covered with Oralight covering. The covering is beautiful transparent dark violet/blue for visibility and contrast. The fuselage is painted white with a dark blue canopy cover. We are amazed at the elegant construction and finish of this model.
The HWG 2/8 airfoil is a low drag airfoil; the Eros combines this airfoil with a low wingloading to achieve a low sinkrate for thermaling at low speeds. Combined with the pleasing but conservative planform results in a handlaunch that is a perfect match for the less experienced pilot and fun for the experienced pilot as well. The light construction reacts to the smallest amount of lift and will maneuver with no surprises. At a flying weight of 9-11 oz, it's an outstanding performer. Handling is what you would expect, very simple and easy for the intermediate or novice pilot. The Eros launches well via standard Javelin Launch and can be modified to withstand a moderate Discus launch as well.
